Darin Showalter, CPCU

Darin is currently the manager of Personal Lines Pricing Analytics and Actuarial Education & Training at Auto-Owners Insurance Company.  He began his career at Auto-Owners in 2011 and has held various positions in the Actuarial division.  Darin graduated from the University of Virginia with degrees in Mathematics and Music.  He earned his CPCU in 2016 and also holds several other designations.  Darin lives in Okemos with his wife Rachel and two children, Hamilton and Victor.

Serina Jinks, CPCU

Serina is an Insurance Professional with over a decade of experience, beginning in 2013 as a licensed agent and evolving into roles in underwriting, product development, and training. She currently serves as a Training Coordinator, supporting Product Development and State Analyst teams through technical training, process improvement, and knowledge development initiatives. She graduated with Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management and has earned multiple insurance designations, reflecting her commitment to ongoing professional development. Serina lives in Marshall with her husband, Aaron, and two children.

Laura Hertrich, CPCU

I earned my CPCU designation  in May 2023. I'm a graduate of Wesern Michigan University. I began my insurance career with Auto-Owners Insurance in October 2015 in our Life Company. I've underwritten all personal lines of business and am currently a product development analyst specializing in personal auto. I reside in East Lansing with my husband and two senior dogs. Some of my hobies include traveling, cooking, and fitness.

Kara Elenbaas, CPCU

Kara is the manager of the Affiliate Technical Services team at Auto-Owners Insurance Company. She began her career at Auto-Owners in 2016 as a Gosu developer in Guidewire ClaimCenter. She obtained her CPCU designation in 2022 and also holds the AINS, AIC, AIm, API, and ARM designations from the Institutes. Kara lives in Grand Ledge with her husband Andrew and three children: Autumn, Arthur, and Zoey.

Thomas Humphreys III, CPCU

Tom began his insurance career in 1989 when he started his own retail insurance agency. Earning his CPCU in 2000, he also holds the ARM, CLU, ChFC and CIC professional designations. After transitioning to the company side as a recruiter and trainer for new agents, he also started instructing pre-licensing courses with Kaplan in 2006, evetually creating his own licensing school, Michigan School of Insurance. Tom began teaching at the university level in 2015 at Olivet College, serving as the Director of the Insurance and Risk Management bachelors degree program. In 2024, he moved to Michigan State University in the Eli Broad College of Business to lead and grow the Insurance and Risk Management program there.

Tom serves as an educational consultant for The Risk & Insurance Education Alliance, as well as an advisor to the techincal and education committees of Big I Michigan. He is the faculty advisor to Gamma Iota Sigma, the insurance and risk management society at MSU. Tom served on the Board of Governors of the Michigan Auto Insurance Placement Facility (MAIPF), and also is the program administrator for the Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame as well as a board member of the Westran Insurance Scholarship Foundation

Tom has been awarded the National Faculty Advisor of the Year for Gamma Iota Sigma, the Most Infulential Professor of a Top 5 Graduating Senior at Olivet College (7 times), and the Walter Adams Advisor of the Year at MSU in 2026. He served his community as the president of the Belding Area Schools Board of education from 2001 to 2015 and the president of the Ionia County Intermediate School District from 2005 to 2015.

Michael Rominiecki, CPCU

Mike is the manager of the Analytics Web Systems team at Auto-Owners Insurance Company. He began his career at Auto-Owners in 2011 and spent much of his first ten years with the company focused on Homeowners and Auto pricing. He obtained his CPCU designation in 2024 and also holds the AINS, AAI, ARe, AIAF, AIDA and AIT designations from the Institutes. Mike lives in Holt with his wife, Annie, and his two children, Vincent and Alaina.
